Bio-Individuality

BIO-INDIVIDUALITY

My journey all starts with Copper Toxicity.  So, if you have researched the abundance of bio-unavailable copper in the body, then you may know a little, or a lot, about Copper Toxicity.  The build up of copper causes a cascade of events in the body, including adrenal insufficiency, iron anemia, magnesium deficiency symptoms, just to name a few and in turn the ability for calcium to build up in the tissues.  There are many other reasons for calcium build up outside of where it should be in the bones and teeth, however, in my particular case, it was EDTA therapy.

LET’S BACK UP JUST A BIT

One thing that I hear all the time when it comes to mineral balance is the constant focus on detox and ridding the body of metals, when exposures are identified on HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis).  But this is NOT mineral balance, it is forcing the body to detox, when most likely the body is not ready to do so.  The first step in mineral balance is to support the first level nutrient minerals, so the body’s functioning becomes stronger and in essence when nutrient minerals are available then toxicities will start to be released by the body naturally.  Toxic elements all play a part in the operations of the body and if the first level minerals are not available then second, or third level minerals will be used.  So, even if someone decides to do a detox, if the first level minerals are still not available to be utilized, then the metals one’s trying to detox will not be released (because the body still needs them). When the approach to mineral balance starts with balancing nutrient minerals, this helps the body become more capable of starting to detox on its own and then, ONLY THEN, should any type of detox protocol be considered.  Detox should be a support to the mineral balancing protocol, not the main character.

So, in this case, I had been mineral balancing for quite some time and this short article is just one more example that shows that everyone’s biochemistry is unique; and so is the way individuals respond to different protocols.  This was back in early 2019 and I had been mineral balancing for over 2.5 years. I had a breakthrough and my calcium had reduced to 68mg% (from 117mg%), which was a new low for me, and getting closer to the ideal mg% at 42.  I still had some elevations that my body was dealing with but I wanted to try a very mild EDTA chelation therapy to see if I could help move some of those out of the body (again please do not try any of this without the support of a qualified heath care practitioner).  I actually only used this particular therapy for approx. 10 days (5 doses).  In that 10 days, I had gained approx. 10 pounds, my digestive system was in dismay and I was feeling extremely fatigued.  I knew I was not responding well to this particular therapy, so I stopped immediately.

After a short period of time, I lost the initial weight gain, which I think was water weight due to inflammation; however, I was having some major symptoms that I had never experienced prior.  I was still training heavily with kettlebells, running and HIIT training and my energy and performance was extremely poor.  I was struggling to get through workouts, I felt very immobile, my back was stiff, constantly cracking, my knees hurt, my hips hurt and no matter how much astaxanthin, omega-3s or magnesium I took, it didn’t seem to make a difference.  So, it was time to do an HTMA and see what was happening, I needed to know why I was feeling this way.

A few weeks later, I got my results back and the answers were all there…….my tissue calcium had risen from 68mg% to 185mg% – I now had a calcium shell pattern, which is exactly where all of these symptoms were coming from.  I was extremely frustrated, but biohacking isn’t always easy, so I started brainstorming to see how I could reduce this and alleviate some of these debilitating symptoms.

WHAT TO DO…

I had heard of a theory quite a long time ago that they used for some of the 9/11 rescue workers in order to rid their bodies of the toxins that they were exposed to during the NY clean up, it was called Hubbard Therapy.  One thing that is part of this particular therapy was infrared sauna, which is great for helping the body detox naturally through its largest organ (the skin).  Hubbard therapy itself is quite extreme, so I modified it to make it milder, easier to manage and less stress on the body.  I followed a specific protocol for high dose Niacin (yes, the kind that makes your skin flush) which increased weekly for 4 weeks, I took this dose approx. 20-30 minutes prior to getting into the sauna, this helps to open blood vessels and increase blood flow, hence the flushing.  I did this 3 times per week and I definitely started to feel different experiencing more energy and more mobility.  I did this throughout September 2019 and as soon as the month was over, I did another HTMA.  I was pleased to receive my results and my tissue calcium had gone from 185mg% to 113mg%.

Now, please remember if you are attempting to try or implement any therapy either for yourself, or clients, you need to research and find a health practitioner with experience in what you are attempting to achieve.  I shared this story because I feel that HTMA is one of the most powerful diagnostic tests that you can truly use as a blueprint to start your health journey.  As demonstrated here, mineral patterns move and sometimes very quickly, other times more slowly.  It just solidifies the fact that we are all different and if you are still attempting to heal yourself, regain lost energy or try to change your health then basing it on science is the first step to achieve the results that you are looking for.
